Abstract
Alzheimer's is a type of dementia disease characterized by a progressive and irreversible decline in cognition and memory function. Alzheimer's often occurs at the age above 65 years, and can even appear at a younger age. In Indonesia, Alzheimer's disease was found in 1 million people in 2013, and is expected to increase and develop every year in line with changing demographic conditions in Indonesia. There are many theories of the pathological process of Alzheimer's disease, the 2 most common are β-Amyloid protein sedimentation and abnormalities aggregation of TAU protein. Besides decreased on cognitive and memory function, disturbance and changed on REM sleep behavior often appear in the early phases of Alzheimer's disease and get worse as the disease progresses. Changes or disturbances in REM sleep behavior that were found were changes in sleep duration, decreased quality of sleep, apnea / breathing problems during sleep, and some involuntary limb movement during sleep. This is caused by damage to the glymphatic system in the brain and the pathological process of Alzheimer's disease which interferes with neurohormonal activity and some structure in the central nervous system. Therefore, if we find changes or disturbances in REM sleep accompanied by clinical signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, interventions can be immediately carried out in the physical activity patterns, nutritional supply, and pharmacological therapy of the patient.
