Abstract

This research is about the inner conflict of the main character which becomes an interesting thing to study. Every person who experiences some problems can experience inner conflict. Through inner conflict, a person can find out the causes of various conflicts that are experienced by every human being. Based on this, this study aims to describe (1) the form of inner conflict in the personality of the main character in the novel Perempuan Bersampur Merah by Intan Andaru (2) the factors that cause inner conflict in the main character in the novel Perempuan Bersampur Merah by Intan Andaru. The method used in this research is a type of qualitative research. The approach used is the personality psychoanalysis of Sigmund Freud. The data source in this research is the novel Perempuan Bersampur Merah by Intan Andaru. The research data is in the form of sentence story units in the novel. Data collection techniques in this study were reading, analyzing or marking and taking notes. The data analysis technique used a qualitative descriptive technique. This research was conducted through several stages, namely the stages of preparation, implementation and completion. From the results of the analysis and discussion, it shows that inner conflict is a conflict between two different desires, the conflict can occur in oneself or with those around you. Forms of inner conflict are caused by the id, ego and superego forms. (1) the form of the id is innate, always looking for pleasure and always avoiding discomfort, (2) the form of the ego is the controller between pleasure and reality, can control between entering into consciousness and what is done, (3) the superego form has the right to decide something right or wrong, can decide the will of a problem and always pursue perfection. Of the three forms of inner conflict, this form is experienced by the main character in the novel Perempuan Berampur Merah, as for the factors that cause inner conflict in the main character, namely (1) Historical Factors, namely congenital factors from the past to the future, having feelings of deep disappointment, and trauma. (2) Contemporary factors from the environment around the community, the lack of socializing with the surrounding environment, and have a discomfort towards something
