Abstract
Literature is a part of writing that describes and explains through thinking and human behavior in literary works. One of literary works is novel that means as a literary work of prose fiction that in narrative condition tells a story about particular human experiences, over a considerable length (Prahl, 2019). In this research, the researcher would like to analyze and describe about psychological aspect of the major character, Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit Novel by J. R. R. Tolkien; that affect bravery of Bilbo Baggins when dealing with difficult situations and his psychological condition after facing difficult situations affecting his bravery. This is a descriptive qualitative research that uses Objective Approach to analyze the Research Object, Novel The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien; with using documentation to collect the data. In the meantime, there some steps to analyze the data such as drawing and understanding the outline of the story, classifying Bilbo Baggins’s psychological aspects and condition until drawing conclusion. After analysing the data, researcher found data findings that related to Bilbo Baggins’s psychological aspects and condition which affect his bravery when and after facing difficult situations. The Hierarchy of Needs theory by Maslow (1943) is used to support the psychological aspects finding and theory of Peterson (2004) is used to describe Bilbo Baggins’s bravery that following the psychological aspects. In other hand, the psychological condition of Bilbo Baggins was also found by researcher with using theory of Schuster (2018) and Dasgupta (2013).
