Abstract
Trading activity is a way for humans to fulfill their various needs. Trading activities give rise to the development of a retail business. The development of modern retail (minimarket) affects traditional retail (grocery store). The development of the retail business is caused by a wider market share which makes it difficult for producers to sell their products directly to consumers. The distribution of minimarkets on the one hand has a positive impact, high economic growth, and investment activities. The other side has a negative impact, which can cause their business to shut down. The increasing number of minimarkets that are standing makes grocery store owners have to develop strategies to maintain the continuity of their business. The objectives of this study are 1) Knowing the turnover, the number of buyers, and working hours of the grocery store business before and after the presence of the minimarket in Sooko District, Mojokerto Regency. 2) Knowing the impact after the presence of the minimarket on turnover, the number of buyers and working hours of the grocery store business in Sooko District, Mojokerto Regency. The population of this research is the owner of the grocery store in Sooko District, Mojokerto Regency. The sample in this study was determined using a purposive random sampling method. The data analysis method used was the paired sample t-test. The results of this study indicate that there are positive and negative impacts of the existence of a minimarket on the grocery store business in Sooko District, Mojokerto Regency. The positive impact is an increase in grocery store working hours, while the negative impact is that profits and the number of buyers have decreased.
