Abstract

Happiness and satisfaction are expectations to be achieved for every individual undergoing a marriage relationship. One of the factors in achieving satisfaction in marriage is having good quality interpersonal communication. Meanwhile, the quality of interpersonal communication can be influenced by a partner's phubbing behavior. Someone who behaves phubbing in front of their partner can hinder communication between husband and wife and have an impact on the satisfaction felt in the marriage relationship. This study aims to determine the role of interpersonal communication quality as a mediator variable of the influence of partner phubbing on marital satisfaction. The research subjects were 244 consisting of married men and women with a marriage age range of the first 5 years and owning a smartphone. The instruments used were partner phubbing scale (Pphubbing), ENRICH Marital Satisfaction (EMS), and interpersonal communication quality scale. Mediation analysis was conducted through Process Hayes model 4. The results showed that the quality of interpersonal communication acts as a mediator of the effect of partner phubbing on marital satisfaction (β = -0.246, CI = -0.3304 - -0.1662).
