Abstract

As a Hindu majority population, Bali has a vicious culture and is filled with a variety of local and foreign civilizations. The environment faced provides parents with their struggle in implementing religiosity development to their children. Based on these issues, parents' position is required as a first hand in nurturing children’s religiosity at home and then being encouraged by the surroundings. Nurturing children's religiosity is a process or approach for parents to provide children with an understanding of religion so that it can be incorporated in everyday life from each faith’s point of view, worship, and morality. Moreover, this study uses a qualitative approach with the form of field research. The techniques used for collecting data are surveys, observations, and reports. The number of families surveyed as the subjects for this study consist of 3 Muslim families with 3 mother as the main informant in each family and 1 husband and 5 children with an age range of 6-11 years as the supporting informant. Triangulation is used to test the validity of the results. The findings of this study have shown that the enforcement of nurturing children's religiosity has sort of different ways and approaches in terms of implementation within each family. By and large, it begins by dawn prayers and proceeds by nurturing religiosity in the context of praying, memorizing and reciting the Quran, reading Islamic stories, fasting and our attitude or behaviors towards non-Muslims, which is done after school hours. By using techniques of habituation, exemplary, monitoring and granting of rewards or punishments, this method can be implemented and replicated to become a habit that is ingrained in the child. Furthermore, supporting factors are needed such as parents' understanding of Islam, facilities at home and the children's mood/motivation, as well as some tough rules that parents give to children. By the existence of supporting factors, there are certainly inhibiting factors faced by parents such as the impact of electronic media, mood/motivation of children, and also children's time to play that sometimes exceeds the time limit for praying.
