Abstract
This study aims to reveal and describe the motivation of needs in the Rantau 1 Muara novel by Ahmad Fuadi with a need motivation approach. Motivation of needs has an important role in seeing individual struggles in meeting their needs. The data source of this research is the Rantau 1 Muara novel by Ahmad Fuadi published by Gramedia Jakarta in 2013. This research shows that the individual's success in fulfilling his needs depends on the determination and willingness of the individual in trying. The form of motivational needs used in Rantau 1 Muara by Ahmad Fuadi in the form of motivation for achievement, motivation for power needs, motivation for affiliated needs. Based on the findings, the motivation of achievement of the main character is manifested through hard work in realizing dreams, being honest in doing work, having an enthusiastic attitude, working hard on duty, trusting in self-ability, progressive work, successfully fostering a happy and prosperous household, and succeed in the efforts made so that the fulfillment of motivation for achievement in life is fulfilled. Motivation of power needs related to leadership is having an influence on others because of writing skills. Motivation for the need for affiliation is to actively engage in collaboration, have the attitude of helping initiatives among others, establish good relations with colleagues and people around them in their environment. Motivation of needs expressed through the main character makes this novel has its own strength in conveying the struggle of one's life.
