“MAKNA SIMBOL BUDAYA BANJAR PADA KESENIAN TRADISIONAL MADIHIN (Studi Pada Pamadihinan di Kabupaten Banjar, Kalimantan Selatan)”

Indonesia, with its diversity of ethnicities, languages, and cultures, reflects a rich cultural heritage upheld by the motto Bhineka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity). Oral literature, such as the Madihin art form in South Kalimantan, is a cultural heritage that has flourished and holds philosophical value. Despite facing a decline in interest among younger generations, understanding cultural symbols, such as traditional musical instruments and verses, can strengthen appreciation for local wisdom. It is important for the government and society to collaborate in enhancing understanding and appreciation of Banjar culture, preserving and developing Madihin art as part of Indonesia's identity and cultural wealth. This research aims to explore the meaning of cultural symbols embedded in the Madihin art form. The study utilizes a qualitative approach, specifically interpretive research. The research was conducted in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, in May 2023. The subjects of the study were Madihin performers or pamadihinan. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques comprised several stages: data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the study indicate that the traditional attire of Taluk Balanga in Banjar symbolizes simplicity, harmony, and Islamic identity, with designs reflecting religious values and societal unity. The verses in Madihin art communicate moral values, ethics, and Banjar identity through wise words in the Banjar language, creating a sense of unity and solidarity. The rebana musical instrument, made of animal skin and wood, creates a diversity of sounds and rhythms reflecting the spiritual journey of humanity, while the 'tang-dung-pak' beats add harmony and allure for the audience.
