Abstract
Language style has a function that can elucidate the way individuals communicate each other. It also can notify the distinction between male and female in a literature. This research aspires to analyze the differences among male and female in writing instrument through their language style which is in their figurative language and emotive language usage. Therefore, this research will answer the questions regarding to the preference and the difference of figurative language and emotive language used by male and female poet. In this research, the researcher used a descriptive-qualitative research. The researcher was the key instrument. Then, selected poems were choosen as a tool to distinguish the difference between male and female poet which were five poems by female poet and five poem by male poet. The role of the researcher were planning, collecting, and analyzing the data. Furthermore, choosing selected poem, reading, separating, calculating, identifying, and comparing the figurative language and emotive language was done during the data collection. Then, the researcher also conducted a data validation through the material expert. The research finding presented several figurative languages in the selected poem which are Repetition, Hyperbole, Metaphor, Simile, Irony, Paralysis, Chiasmus, Ellipsis, Synecdoche, and Euphemism. The finding denoted that female and male poets had different preference of figurative language usage. Hereafter, in emotive language, it was found that male and female poet use positive and negative connotation but in different frequency. Male and female poet also show different rethoric usage on how they show their emotion inside a language.
