Abstract
This study will discuss China's military strategy towards the freedom of navigation of the United States in the South China Sea. The purpose of this study is to know and understand the extent of defense from the Chinese military, as a regional power in the South China Sea after the freedom of navigation of the United States in the South China Sea. This study is a descriptive study with an inductive model. The analytical framework uses the concept of deterrence and national interest in explaining China's defense as a refusal of the existence of military operations and China's interests from military defense against freedom of navigation. The results of the study that with the freedom of navigation by the United States in military operations in the South China Sea, China modernized the military as a form of China's military strategy. Military modernization was carried out for the defense of China's territory in the South China Sea. To protect China's interests in the South China Sea in the form of mineral resources that can become an energy supply for China's survival. Besides that, the South China Sea is also one of the important shipping routes of China's economic policy in cooperation with Eurasia. So the need for defense is a rejection and prevention of the involvement of other countries in the South China Sea, especially the United States. Because the United States is a country that has great power in the international world.
