Abstract
Background: The temperatures and high humidity of tropical Indonesia's geographical condition facilitates the growth of fungi. Candida albicans is an organism causing mostly fungal disease. The development of Candida albicans’ resistance to antifungal drugs is a potential problem that requires the other alternative treatment, one of them is by using red betel’s leaves. Red betel leaves were claimed to have an antifungal effect because they contain several active substances, which works by damaging the membrane and fungal cell walls. Objectives: This research was aimed to determine the effect of antifungal Stewed Water (Dekok) of Red Betel’s Leaves (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) againsts Candida albicans. Research Methods: By using true of experiments test Post Only Control Group Design. The method used was tubes dilution of red betel leaves stewed water concentration 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, 1.56% and 0.78% and 2 controls (material control and germ control). Results: Data analysis used oneway ANOVA test, regression and correlation. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) could not be determined because the turbidity’s possibility was affected by the original color Red Betel’s Leaves, but Tukey test yielded 12.5% concentration asMIC. Minimum Fungisidal Concentration (MFC) was determined at concentrations of 50%. The oneway ANOVA test and the correlation test of significance for unknown values 0,000 Conclusion: This study showed that Red Betel’s Leaves had its antifungal against Candida albicans.
