Abstract

Novel is a literary work that contains images of human life in the real world. Novel has a uniqueness, strangeness, and oddity that deserves to be studied, one of which is about a culture that is embraced by a community class. The cultural uniqueness of a community is found in Genduk Novel by Sundari Mardjuki. In the novel, Wong Cilik has its own uniqueness that deserves to be studied. In this study the problems formulation are (1) how is the religious life of a tobacco farmer as Wong Cilik in Genduk Novel by Sundari Mardjuki? (2) how is the social life of tobacco farmers as Wong Cilik in Genduk Novel by Sundari Mardjuki? (3) how is the personal life of tobacco farmers as Wong Cilik in Genduk Novel by Sundari Mardjuki? This research used descriptive qualitative method with literary anthropology approach. The data in this research were sentence, paragraph, or story unit in Genduk Novel. The source of this research data was a Genduk Novel by Sundari Mardjuki published by PT. Gramedia Pustaka Utama, first printing on 2016. Key instruments in this study were researcher with table of research instruments. The analysis activities were theories about Javanese culture especially the life of the Wong Cilik. Data analysis techniques started from selecting and codifying data, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions. Based on the research results obtained, (1) the religious life of the tobacco farmers as Wong Cilik includes believing the occult, (2) the social life of tobacco farmers as Wong Cilik includes respectful attitude, (3) the personal life of the tobacco farmers as Wong Cilik includes wealth, lifestyle, and manner of behave. Based on these results, it can be concluded that Genduk Novel by Sundari Mardjuki found several things namely, the religious life of the tobacco farmers as Wong Cilik who believe in the occult, the social life of tobacco farmers as Wong Cilik who has the respectful attitude, and the personal life of tobacco farmers as Wong Cilik can be seen from the wealth, lifestyle, and manner of behave. It is expected that this research can be useful and can increase the insight of knowledge for readers
