Abstract

This research focuses on strategies for character building of students at the Imam Syafi'i Balikpapan Islamic Boarding School (PPIS). The aim of this research is to identify and understand the concrete strategies implemented by the Imam Syafi'i Balikpapan Islamic Boarding School in shaping the character of its students. Using Robert K. Yin's explanatory data analysis method, this research highlights three main strategies identified during the character formation process of students at PPIS. First, this research reveals that Islamic boarding schools apply an in-depth approach to material cultivation. The learning material is not only theoretical, but also integrates moral values in an applied manner in the daily lives of students. Second, collaborative practice of moral values between teachers and students is one of the key strategies. This active interaction creates an environment where moral values are practiced together, this allows students to understand and internalize these teachings better. Finally, rewards and punishments are implemented proportionally in response to student behavior, providing positive incentives or appropriate sanctions. Thus, these findings provide deeper insight into the character building practices at PPIS and confirm that the strategies implemented are very concrete and measurable. In conclusion, the Imam Syafi'i Balikpapan Islamic Boarding School effectively integrates moral values into its daily learning approach, ensuring the formation of a strong character for students based on Islamic values.
