Abstract

This research aimed at describing the students' ability in solving the Pythagorean problems based on SOLO taxonomy. This research was a qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this research were 8th grade students of Junior High School (SMP) which consisted of two pre-structural level students, two uni-structural students, two multi-structural level students, two relational level students, and two extended abstract students. The data collection techniques used tests and interviews. The qualitative data analysis technique was used in this research. The results of the study showed that: 1) the students at the structural level had not been able to solve all the problems; 2) the students at the uni-structural level were only able to solve the uni-structural level problems; 3) the students at the multi-structural level were only able to solve uni-structural and multi-structural level problems; 4) the students at the relational level were able to solve the problems at uni-structural, multi-structural, and relational level; and 5) the students at the extended abstract level had been able to solve all the problems that existed in the Pythagorean problem-solving test based on the given SOLO taxonomy.
