Abstract

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) are welding process mostly used in the field of metal connection or metal compound. Its advantage is able to operate automatically and is relatively fast in implementation also high reliability in welding application, strength, on welded joint is in fluienced by several factors as heat input, current, welding speed, cooling rate, filler chemical composition, flux and base metal. This research aimed to find out the effect of GMAW-SAW and SAW welding combination process to connection defects and mechanical properties SM490A and SM520B steel are used in this research with V 200 in 1G position. This research used welding combination method (GMAW 60% - SAW 40%) and (SAW 100%). GMAW filler used ER70S-6 with 1,43% Mn content and SAW used F7AO-EM12K with 1,33 % Mn content. Defection test on the joint was conducted with radiographic test and macro observation. Test for mechanical properties conducted with tensile test and bending test in side bend. Result of this research shows that GMAW-SAW welding combination has higher strenght of 508 Mpa than SAW with 477 Mpa. It proots that the increment of Mangan (Mn) influence the strength of welded joint.
