Abstract
This research is motivated by the existence of Bengkulu, Rejang tribe folk songs which are an oral culture and are passed on from generation to generation from generation to generation. With oral culture, the researcher can learn the customs, attitudes and patterns of governance Rejang tribe community in Bengkulu Province Kepahiang District as a multicultural learning. In addition, this research background also want to preserve a sense, develop, maintain, develop a regional cultural traditions that can enrich the national culture. The purpose of this research is to obtain a description of aspects of oral culture or folklore contained in Bengkulu, Rejang tribe folk songs that include the creation of the background songs, meanings, and functions contained in Bengkulu, Rejang tribe folk songs. The research method used was descriptive qualitative method. And using a holistic approach or the so-called modern folklore approach that includes two elements namely his folk and lore. Techniques used to collect data is the technique of interview, observation, and documentation. Researchers analyzed the data in the form of descriptions of words and verbal statement of the observed behavior of informants. The source of the data in this study as many as eight (8) text Bengkulu, Rejang tribe folk songs that have been transcribed directly by the Rejang tribe native to the Indonesian language. From the analysis of this study concluded that: (1) the background of the creation of Bengkulu, Rejang tribe folk songs are (a) the existence of folklore which are spread orally in Bengkulu, Rejang tribal citizens, (b) the existence Meringit, which is the name for the rebound song created because the complaint, regret, compassion, happiness is like a song sung, (c) there is some belief that tribal citizens are considered by the Rejang, (d) the existence of some customs or cultural traditions passed down for generations into the background of the creation of tribal folk songs Rejang Bengkulu, (e) the existence of cultural history, (f) the existence of good behavior and habits of people Rejang tribe who live in the mountains or hills. (2) The meaning of the song contained Bengkulu, Rejang tribal region reveal a lot about society and the social meaning of love our fellow human beings. (3) The function of folk songs as an oral culture Begkulu Rejang tribe provides many functions in society today Bengkulu, Rejang tribe, among them to express feelings, as the language of satire, as a warning, as support, and so forth.
