Abstract

An earthquake that occurred on May 27, 2006 that have destroyed homes and most of the property and the loss of hundreds of lives due to exposure to the rubble left a deep sadness for the people of Yogyakarta in general. Where the elderly was ranked second after the children who need assistance. Yet the elderly in the area of Yogyakarta is not only silent grief and mourning in such a situation of deprivation. So it raises issues that need to be studied in more depth. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, which aims to determine the resilience of the elderly victims of Yogyakarta earthquake. The research method using interview and observation techniques to the research data. The research subjects were three elderly victims who reside in Sribit, Mulyodadi Village, Kec. Bambanglipuro Kab.Bantul Yogyakarta. Results showed the elderly victims of the earthquake in Yogyakarta have a tendency resilient. This dikarenkan existence of factors within the subject that is capable of receiving a state subject at hand, this is because of the resignation and the belief in the power of God. In addition, factors from outside the support of family and society place to live subjects (neighbors) that supports the subject could make efforts to rise again to improve the current situation.
