Abstract

Silet infotainment program is a program in the form of investigation that first rises in television. However, in August 2006, it rise “instruction of forbidden” by Nahdhatul Ulama (NU). They argue that all infotainment programs include Silet must not be displayed again in television because they are less appropriate with Islamic norms. Therefore, this research is done to know the motive of FAI students, who are notabene have Islam education, to Silet Infotainment program. This research uses descriptive method with quantitative data type, where it is not only conclude and classify the data, but it also analyzes the data. The amount of population is 52 respondents and its sample is 52 respondents. Sample intake technique is total sampling. While, its data collecting technique is questionnaire and documentation. The students’ motive to watch Silet infotainment program is based on two motives, they are extrinsic motive that come from outside of individual self and intrinsic motive that come from the individual self. Research result reveals that the reason of FAI student generation of 2005 in watching Silet infotainment program in RCTI is each individual want to seek a satisfaction of entertainment needs. The entertainment needs is based by intrinsic motive. According to Usesand Gratification theory that assumed that mass media, in this case is television, has a function as a satisfaction tools of public needs on information, especially entertainment.
