Abstract

Film serves as a highly popular form of entertainment deeply ingrained in society. It can effectively shape the perceptions, attitudes, and thoughts of the audience regarding social issues depicted in the narrative. "Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap" is a comedy drama film portraying a traditional Batak family, addressing familial conflicts and subtly conveying gender discrimination issues, all while embracing the cultural uniqueness and humor of the characters.
This research employs a qualitative interpretative approach, utilizing the constructivist paradigm and Roland Barthes' semiotic method. The objective is to identify signs that represent gender discrimination depicted in scenes and dialogues within the film.
The research findings reveal elements of gender discrimination through marginalization, subordination, labeling, and the double burden imposed by the father figure in the film. Consequently, the film undergoes a genre crossing, initially presented as a comedy drama but ultimately revealing family breakdown resulting from gender discrimination.
