Abstract

In English subject, there were four basic skills such as reading, writing, listening and speaking that must be learned by the students. The students were expected to have the ability in those language skills. To know whether the teaching and learning process sucsessful or not, evaluation is needed. Test was one of the tool that can use to evaluate the students ability. So, the teacher might know how far the students understand about the material that they learned. Sometimes, the teacher gives the item test which was constructed by themselves. Besides, the teacher also took some questions in LKS (worksheet) when the teacher wanted to test his or her students without evaluating it whether the test was good or not. To know the quality of the item, item analysis can be used to identify the quality of the items. This study tried to investigate the difficulty level of the reading test in English worksheet that was used by the second year studentsÂ’ of SMAN 1 Sanggar. This study used quantitative as research design because in analyzing the data, the reseacher used statistical formula and the data presents in the form of numbers. The finding showed that by Using ArikuntoÂ’s criteria, the difficulty level of all items were considered empirically good. The average value of difficulty level (FV)= 0.50 implied that most items were acceptable. From 20 items, there were 8 items belonged to moderate items. Particularly, 4 items were difficult ( > 0.30) and 8 item were easy ( < 0.70). So, it can be concluded that the reading test in English worksheet used by the second year students’ of SMAN 1 Sanggar could be categorized as criteria of a good difficulty level were in the range of 0.30-0.70 (moderate). In other words, the difficulty level of the item test is good because it was not too difficult and not too easy.
