Abstract
Intelligence quotient is one of the factors that influence students' achievement. The level of IQ gives contribution to the students' mastery in language skills. There are four skills of language; speaking, reading, listening, and writing. A good in speaking will avoid misinterpretation in understanding language. This research aimed at measuring the correlation between students' IQ and students' speaking achievement of the tenth grade at SMA Negeri 1 Pagak. It was intended to know whether there were or not correlation between students' IQ and students' speaking achievement. This study was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Pagak Malang. The researcher used descriptive correlational as research design. The population of this study was the students on the tenth grade at SMA Negeri 1 Pagak. The sample of this research were 80 students, and was taken by using purposive random sampling. There were 274 students, and the researcher took 10 students as representative from each classes. There were two variables investigated in this study, namely: students' IQ and students' speaking achievement. To collect the data the researcher used official document as the instrument. The data got from the teacher based students' speaking scores and there were three kinds of students' performance. Meanwhile, the data of the students' IQ were gotten from counseling teacher and tested by private institution. To find out correlation the researcher used Pearson's Product Moment as the formula. In analyzing the data, this research used descriptive analysis to describe the result of the computation. The result of this study showed that there is positive correlation between students' IQ and students' speaking achievement. The result is supported by the result of the computation of comparison between r-value and r-table. It was found that number of r-value was 0,503 and r-table was 0,219, by considering level of significant 0,05 and degree of fredem (df=N-2) was 78. It means that the score of r-value was higher than t-table. Therefore, Hi was accepted and Ho was rejected. The conclusion, if the students' IQ has a high level of IQ, then it will be followed by the high level of the students' speaking achievement.
