Abstract

The number of women who wear the niqab is considered a minority and the existence of negative stereotypes from society causes a distance in interaction between women who wear the niqab and society. This causes intergroup anxiety in women who wear the veil. One of the factors that can cause intergroup anxiety in individuals is the characteristics of the individual's personality. This research aims to determine whether there are differences in the level of intergroup anxiety experienced by women who wear the veil in terms of the big 5 personalities they have. Quantitative approach with correlational design. The sampling technique uses snowball sampling where the researcher determines a sample that is initially small in number and then increases in size. The research subjects were 131 subjects with the criteria being Muslim women, at least 15 years old, and wearing a veil as their main identity. The instruments used were the Intergroup anxiety scale and the Big 5 Personality scale (IPIP-BFM-25). The results of this study show that there are differences in the level of intergroup anxiety in the five personality dimensions in the big 5 personality with a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.005) with the highest average value at 19.55 by the neuroticism dimension.
