Abstract

Introduction: In this millennial era, the development of science and technology cannot be stopped. Internet is one of the necessities of life that cannot be separated from daily activities. In addition to the internet, smartphones are devices that can help carry out daily needs by using some of the latest features. One combination of the internet and smartphones is online games, but if used wrong, they will become addictive and interfere with productive time, especially for teenagers. The purpose of this study was to identify and understand the factors that cause adolescents to become addicted to online games based on a literature review. Method: The research method used is a literature study using the Pubmed central database, Biomed, Garuda Portal, and Google Scholar. Articles were screened using PRISM (Preferred. Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses). There are nine journals; after scoring the quality of the journals using JBI (Joanna Briggs Institute), the remaining 7 journals were extracted with data. Results: The data extraction results from seven journals contained eight factors that caused adolescents to become addicted to online games. These factors are Function, control, and supervision of the family; Loneliness and need for affiliation; Sensation seeking with basic psychological needs and impulsiveness; Parenting; Social adjustment; Depression; Lack of productivity; Environment. Conclusions: The average teenager is addicted to playing games for 2-8 hours daily. Finding friends, being influenced by the environment, and parenting patterns are the main factors for teenagers who are addicted to online games.
