Abstract

This research aims to examine the role of the Premier League as an instrument of British diplomacy towards Indonesia through the utilization of social media platforms. As the highest football league in England, the Premier League holds significant global influence and has a large fan base in Indonesia. In the current digital era, social media has become an essential tool in facilitating public diplomacy and interactions between states and non-state actors. This study employs a qualitative approach by conducting content analysis of the official social media accounts of the Premier League that focus on Indonesia. The data obtained from this analysis provides an overview of how the Premier League utilizes social media as a means to strengthen bilateral relations with Indonesia, enhance cultural understanding, and promote a positive image of Britain in the eyes of the Indonesian society. The findings of this research are expected to provide new insights into the role of sports, particularly the Premier League, in state diplomacy and the importance of utilizing social media as a modern diplomatic tool.
