Abstract

Assessment in this study used the notion assessment as "assessment". Assessment is a general term that includes all the usual methods used to assess the performance of individuals or groups of learners. Authentic assessment is an assessment that measures students' ability in which tasks are given challenge for students to express, prove, and demonstrate the knowledge that has been mastered and achieved the guaranteed authenticity, honesty, and the results can be trusted. One of the authentic assessment is the portfolio assessment. Portfolio assessment to be used in this study is the assessment of a collection of student written report on how the activities and efforts of students in learning activities, namely: (1) Journal of learning, (2) Task discussions, (3) The task group (4) quiz , (5) Task homework (PR), and (6) Charter award. This research aims to (1) implement a portfolio assessment as an authentic assessment of learning material in class VIII student of geometry SMP N 18 Malang, and (2) know the activity of teachers and students in the application of portfolio assessment as an authentic assessment of learning material in class VIII student of geometry SMP N 18 Malang. This study used qualitative descriptive method, because the data to be generated is the description of words that describe the assessment of portfolios as authentic assessment carried out in SMP Negeri 18 Malang. Based on the research found that: (1) implementation of portfolio assessment as an authentic assessment has been carried out in SMP Negeri 18 Malang with classical exhaustiveness reached 77.78%, (2) percentage of activity for 77.09% of teachers with a good category, while the percentage of student activity by 76, 39% with either category. This study suggests the implementation of portfolio assessment, teachers should have: (1) planning, (2) teachers provide guidance, attention, and guidance to students especially to students who have difficulty, (3) setting the right time.
