Abstract

Students need to get active enough space and can interact with other students when the learning process takes place. Through this interaction students will be able to exchange ideas and exchange knowledge when studying a particular subject matter of maths. One model involves students learning to interact with other students, cooperate with each other, and to train students to understand the material through group discussion is a type of cooperative learning model of snowball throwing. This study aimed to describe the implementation of cooperative learning through observation throwing snowball type of activity the teacher and student activities. In addition, to determine student learning outcomes obtained after a test carried out on material promotion and integer square root, and to know the students' response to implementation of the learning model. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach, whereas the type of research is descriptive. The study, conducted on 6 to 20 August 2010 was only choose one class as the subject of class VII C as many as 30 students in the SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu. Based on the results of analysis of teacher and student activities in the implementation of cooperative learning type of Snowball Throwing, during three meetings with the learning process can be accomplished either by looking at the percentage of teachers' activities reached 80% and the percentage of students reached 71.3%. Student learning results obtained after execution of cooperative learning throwing snowball type score as many as 24 students have achieved mastery of individuals, while the unfinished as many as 6 students. The classical learning outcomes have reached the standards set by the classical completeness school because many students who pass the classical reached 80%. The response given to the implementation of student learning is very strong, visible in the results obtained by the analysis percentage of 80.74%.
