Abstract

Social media today cannot be denied that human life today is closely related to social media, social media has become a necessity for all people from various levels of age, gender, education and residence, and plays an important role in society. Starting from sending messages, looking for entertainment, and sharing information. On the other hand, with the development of information technology and the number of social media circulating such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube that can be used and even we cannot be separated from the name social media, so that a lot of time is wasted just to play or be active in the virtual world. As a result, it has an impact on reading activities, especially among students, as students we must be diligent in reading. Whether in reading various literature such as books, journals, ebooks, news magazines and the like.
This study uses a positivism paradigm and a quantitative approach. In this study the sample was Fisip UMM class 2019 students as many as 91 respondents with proportional random sampling technique. With data collection methods in the form of distributing questionnaires (google form) and interviews with Likert scale data measurement.
