Abstract

Background: Giving oral antidiabetics is not able to reduce blood sugar, so giving a combination of insulin can help the treatment of DM patients. Patient compliance behavior is a key factor in whether DM can be managed well by DM patients. The Health Belief Model (HBM) is a behavioral theory that is often applied to DM patients.
Objective: To analyze behavioral factors that influence compliance in insulin use for DM outpatients at RSI Aisyiyah, Malang City based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) theory.
Method: Analytical observational research in the form of a cross sectional design with questionnaires administered. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression tests to measure the influence of the five HBM components on patient compliance in using insulin correctly.
Results and Conclusions: Each of the five HBM components has a significant influence on insulin use compliance. Together, the five HBM components also have a simultaneous influence on insulin use compliance. In the coefficient of determination test, Compliance can be explained by five HBM components. This research can be used as a basis for developing further research. To increase compliance, interventions need to be carried out by considering each HBM factor.
