Abstract
In most parts of Indonesia is prone to earthquakes. The building that collapsed during the earthquake is largely a home-walled building walls. Tembokan material strength is one determinant of strength tembokan wall. The variation of material strength tembokan significant between each region causing damage to a different variation. Thus an examination of the physical properties of brick and masonry in earthquake-prone areas of East Java (Malang, Blitar, Pacitan and Banyuwangi) This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Civil Engineering University of Malang. For the initial test conducted testing which includes testing the characteristics of brick brick, brick testing salt content, water absorption tests with compressive strength of bricks and brick. In addition, other testing is the testing of masonry flexural strength. Mortar mixture that is used there are 3 variations with mixture ratio Cement: Sand: Lime is 1:0:3, 1:1:5, 1:3:10. Each variable was made three specimens with overall totals for the specimen for flexural strength of 36 specimens. From the results of this study can be known to the characteristics of brick observations can be concluded that the characteristics of brick on each area is different review. For Pacitan brick larger in size than the bricks from the area of Malang, Blitar, and Banyuwangi .. In addition to brick salt content in all review areas safe enough because on average have a salt content <50%. While the brick water absorption for all areas review on average ≥ 20% so that the brick needs to be soaked before use. For the compressive strength of brick, Malang area has the greatest compressive strength of 133,895 kg/cm2 and including brick type 1. While the types of brick Pacitan which has the lowest compressive strength of 85,488 kg/cm2 so that it enters the brick type 2. To test the most high flexural strength is masonry Blitar region with strong bending of 0.747kg/cm2 on a mixture of 1, 0, 3. While most small flexural strength is paired with a strong flexible Pacitan of 0.457kg/cm2 in mixture 1; 3; 10. This proves that the use of lime mortar with <20% of the amount of cement used to produce a good pair of flexure strength or higher.
