Abstract

Background: Candida albicans is the leading cause of candidiasis in most clinical
situations. Candida albicans becomes an opportunistic pathogen residing in the oral
cavity and conjunctival flora, as well as in the gastrointestinal and genitourinary
tracts. Mahogany leaves (Swietenia mahagoni L.) can be an alternative antfungi to
inhibit the growth of Candida albicans fungi.
Objective: To find out the class of compounds found in the n-hexan extract of
mahogany leaves (Swietenia mahagoni L.) and how the diameter of the inhibitory
zone of n-hexan extract of mahogany leaves (Swietenia mahagoni L.) against the
growth of Candida albicans fungi.
Research Methods: Experimental research with disc diffusion method. Testing of
antifungal activity of n-hexan extract Mahogany leaf (Swietenia mahagoni L.) will
be compared with nistatin 50 μg/disk. Descriptive data analysis and statistical
testing.
Result and Conclusions: n-hexan extract Mahogany leaves (Swietenia mahagoni
L.) positively contain alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, terpenoids, tannins and
antraquinones. The diameter at each concentration of 70%, 80%, 90% respectively
is 10.2±0.9, 12.89±0.7 mm, 14.93±1.3 mm and positive control 15.66±1.0 mm. n�
hexan extract Mahogany leaves (Swietenia mahagoni L.) potential as antifungal.
