Abstract

This research uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach which aims to describe students' mathematical communication abilities in solving HOTS type problems in terms of mathematical resilience. The subjects in this research were class VIII students at SMPN 26 Malang with low, medium and high levels of mathematical resilience seen from their mathematical communication skills in working on HOTS type questions. Data collection techniques used mathematical resilience questionnaires, HOTS type questions, and interviews. The research instruments used were questionnaire sheets, question sheets, and interview sheets. The data analysis stage is using questionnaires to see students' mathematical resilience, tests to see students' ability to work on HOTS type questions and interviews to dig deeper information related to information on mathematical communication skills and to strengthen the research data that has been obtained. The results of this research show that students who have low mathematical resilience tend to have lower mathematical communication abilities than students who have moderate mathematical communication abilities who have moderate resilience, while students who have high mathematical resilience show higher mathematical communication abilities.
