Abstract

This research examines differences in the level of motivation to learn English among students based on socio-economic background. This research aims to identify and analyze whether there are significant differences in motivation to learn English among students with different economic backgrounds. By using a quantitative approach, all ELED students in semester 3 (2022) constitute the population of this study. After the sample was divided into 3 categories low, medium and high, then each class was randomly selected using stratified random sampling. Data collection in this research used an online questionnaire (Closed-ended questionnaire). The data obtained were analyzed using bivariate statistical techniques. The findings show that there is an insignificant relationship between students' motivation levels and their socio-economic status, both students from low, middle and high economic levels. The results of this study also show that students' level of motivation to learn English is not influenced by their socio-economic status.
