Abstract

This research aims to determine the social problems of children at the UPT Social Protection and Child Care Services (PPSAA) Trenggalek Dormitory Kediri as well as the social support provided by the institution in dealing with these social problems. This study uses a qualitative approach method with descriptive research type and uses purposive sampling techniques to determine research subjects. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews and documentation techniques. The reliability test in this study used extended observation, increased persistence, and triangulation. The results of the study show that there are several social problems among children at the UPT Social Protection and Child Care Services (PPSAA) Trenggalek Dormitory Kediri including orphans, abandoned children, children victims of domestic violence/Broken home, sexual violence/harassment, children from disadvantaged families economically capable, giving rise to vulnerability to child neglect. The social support provided in dealing with children's social problems includes: (1) Social network support, establishing cooperative relationships with several agencies and interested parties; (2) Appreciative support in the form of awards, praise and honor; (3) Emotional support in the form of motivation, attention, comfort and security; (4) Institutional instrumental support in the form of fulfilling basic needs, basic rights, and facilitating foster children in developing their ideas; (5) Information support by providing positive information to foster children and their families.
