Abstract

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic disorder that occurs afterexperiencing a traumatic event. This disorder can result in impaired functioning of theindividual and cause disruption of daily life, such as physiological reactions, self-blame for traumatic events and feeling useless. The purpose of this study was todetermine the effectiveness of Psychological Debriefing to reduce PTSD symptoms inindividuals after experiencing a traumatic event. This study used a type ofexperimental research with a control group pretest-posttest design. The study subjectsamounted to 12 individuals with criteria: 1) early adult individuals with an age rangeof 20 - 25 years who experienced a traumatic accident, 2) lost someone close to themdue to an accident, 3) reside in the city of Malang, 4) experienced a traumatic eventwith a period of >1 month, 5) are not currently studying. Data measurement usingPTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5). Data analysis using non-parametric analysis,namely the Wilcoxon test and the Mann Whitnney test. The results of the analysisfound a significant reduction in symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (Z = -2.201, p = 0.028). It can be concluded that lowering PTSD symptoms throughPsychological Debriefing.
