Abstract

In sports, especially for athletes, to achieve achievements, they must have maximum abilities which include physical, technical, tactical and mental aspects so that athlete performance is a demand both in training and when competing. An athlete's peak performance is a state where the mind and muscles work together, both mentally and physically, so that the athlete can improve his normal abilities. Self-confidence is important in all aspects of life which is formed from practice and interaction with the social environment. Student athletes who do not have self-confidence will doubt their abilities, so student athletes will feel tense when competing. This will harm student athletes from being able to achieve Peak Performance when competing. This research aims to determine the relationship between Self-Confidence and Peak Performance when competing as a Student Athlete. This research uses quantitative correlation test research. The population in this study were Student Athletes under the auspices of Universities/Colleges in Indonesia with a sample size of 343 people. The scale instruments used in this research are the State Sport Confidence Inventory (SSCI), and the Peak Performance scale instrument. The results of data analysis using Spearman's Rank Correlation show that there is a positive relationship between Self-Confidence and Peak Performance in Student Athletes when competing. Where the level of Self-Confidence is high, then the level of Peak Performance is also high, and vice versa, if the level of Self-Confidence is low, then the level of Peak Performance is also low
