Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period marked by significant physical, psychological, and emotional changes, making emotional regulation essential for psychological well-being. This study aims to describe emotional regulation among adolescents with low paternal involvement. A descriptive quantitative approach with purposive sampling was used, involving 385 adolescents aged 13–18 years categorized as having low father involvement. The instruments included an emotional regulation scale and the Father Involvement Scale (FIS), both of which have demonstrated validity and reliability. The results showed that the majority of adolescents were in the low category of emotional regulation. Based on gender, males had higher mean scores than females. Based on age, younger adolescents (13 years old) showed higher scores compared to older adolescents (18 years old). In terms of dimensions, control of emotional response and strategies to emotional regulation were relatively higher than acceptance of emotional response and engaging in goal-directed behavior. These findings highlight the importance of paternal involvement in supporting adolescents’ emotional regulation and provide a basis for family-based interventions.
