This research discusses handling illegal sand mining in the jurisdiction of Bone Regency, South Sulawesi Province as well as the obstacles faced in handling illegal sand mining. The research method used is the sociological juridical research method. The data source was obtained from interviews with the Head of Bune Village and the Head of the Libureng Sector Police with links to literature and legislation relating to mining. Based on the results of research and discussions, it was found that handling illegal mining was carried out by prioritizing non-litigation methods first and if this was not successful then it was carried out through litigation. In a non-litigation manner, directing mine managers to process permits and temporarily confiscate mining equipment as a form of seriousness in handling illegal mining. In litigation, an arrest will be made if during the time of confiscation, the permit is not taken care of. The obstacles faced are a lack of awareness and knowledge regarding illegal mining permits, there are profit sharing agreements between business actors and land owners and the licensing process is long. Therefore, to overcome this, it is necessary to evaluate the content of the socialization material submitted and there needs to be an active role for the government in processing sand mining permits by providing an electronic system that makes things easier for the public.
