Abstract

The aim of this research was to explore students' perceptions and school recommendations related to learning Arabic in the Independent Curriculum. The study employed qualitative research methods of phenomenological type, applying narrative-descriptive techniques. Data collection techniques included participatory observations, structured interviews, documentation, and questionnaire. This study revealed that overall, students had perceptions of Arabic learning in the Independent Curriculum that included content differentiation, values of nationalism, material essence, a relaxed learning atmosphere, group work, variation of attractiveness. However, challenges such as problems related to the lack of given homework and class hours were identified affected the students’ performances in the subject. Furthermore, research recommended providing guidance to students’ in implementing Arabic language learning activities in Independent Curriculum. The recommendations provided by students, teachers, and vice chairs of the curriculum also reflected support and acceptance for the Independent Curriculum in Arabic language learning despite differences in preferences and evaluation focus.
