Abstract

Jakarta-Japan Matsuri or Jak-Japan Matsuri is an event initiated by Japan to introduce its cultures in Indonesia in the form of a cultural festival, by showing both of Japan and Indonesia's cultures. Jak- Japan Matsuri was first held in 2009 and has become an annual event. However, this event was stopped in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2022 it was held again with a different implementation concept of the event than before the pandemic. This study will be focusing on how cultural diplomacy is conducted by Japan in Indonesia through the Jak-Japan Matsuri event in 2022 and analyze using the concept of cultural diplomacy by looking at which actors are involved, the form of activities, and how Japan's cultural diplomacy is implemented based on the three principles of diplomacy culture, which is Transmission, Acceptance, and Coexistence. This study will use qualitative descriptive research type and use data collection techniques in the form of literature studies and secondary data as a source. The result of this study shows that cultural diplomacy conducted by Japan in Indonesia through Jak-Japan Matsuri in 2022 is carried out by showing various of Japanese cultures and involving various actors, such as the Japanese and Indonesian governments, private institutions, and communities that contains with Japanese and Indonesian people. Cultural diplomacy which is done by Japan in Indonesia is in accordance with the three principles of cultural diplomacy in order to strengthen good relations between Japan and Indonesia.
