Supervisor Lecturer II: Eggy Fajar Andalas, S.S., M.Hum.
The existence of myths cannot be separated from Indonesian society. One of them, in Pulukan Jembrana Village, Bali, which is known as a sacred village. The reason the researcher studied myths was because the researcher was interested in the form of public belief in the myth of Pregnant Women. This research is considered an important part in spreading the myth of pregnant women and the richness of folklore in the archipelago. This research aims to explain the form, function and meaning of the myth of Pregnant Women in Pulukan Jembrana, Bali. To answer the problem of the form of myth, the researcher uses the theory of sacred and profane from the thought of Mircea Eliade, to solve the problem of function, the researcher uses the Indonesian folklore theory from the thought of Robert William Basecamp, and to answer the problem of meaning, the researcher uses the theory of meaning from the thought of Barthes and implements it. using an emic perspective.
This research was studied using an ethnographic approach which involves researchers mingling with community life to collect data. Data collection procedures in this research were carried out using interviews, observation, documentation and literature study. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation and conclusion verification.
The results of the research show that the myth of Pregnant Women in Pulukan Jembrana, Bali includes beliefs in death and birth, if you violate the myth it will have bad consequences for pregnant women. This myth has various functions, such as as a belief, as a projection of society, as a means of validating cultural institutions and institutions and as an educational tool. There are denotational and connotative meanings in the myth of pregnant women in Pulukan Jembrana, Bali.
