Abstract

In early adulthood, individuals are required to be able to adapt to the problems and conflicts they face by going through developmental tasks from late adolescence to early adulthood which are certainly not easy to face. The inability of early adults to face their problems causes them to do deviant things such as self-harm. It is very important for every individual to have self-control so that they are able to behave as they should without violating the rules of themselves and their environment. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between self-control and the tendency for self-harm behavior in early adulthood. The method used is a quantitative correlation approach. The subjects in this study were 378 respondents aged 18-25 years. The sampling technique uses incidental sampling technique. By using the Self Control Scale research instrument to measure self control and the Self Harm Inventory (SHI) to measure self harm. The results of the analysis of the Pearson product moment correlation value of -0.514 show that there is a negative relationship between the variables self harm and self control, which means that the higher the self control a person has, the tendency for self harm to be low and vice versa, the lower the self control a person has, the tendency self harm is getting higher.
