Abstract

The school library is a facility and infrastructure that can be used in implementing the School Literacy Movement. SDN Sawojajar 1 Malang utilizes the school library as a School Literacy Movement through school library visits. This research aims to find out: (1) the use of the library at SDN Sawojajar 1 Malang in the School Literacy Movement, (2) the obstacles in using the library at SDN Sawojajar 1 Malang in the School Literacy Movement, (3) the efforts made to overcome the obstacles to the use of the library at SDN Sawojajar 1 Malang in the School Literacy Movement.

This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The data source in this research took information from interviews with class teachers and teacher librarians, observation and documentation. The research was conducted from June to August 2023.

The results of the research explain that (1) the use of school libraries is related to the stages of the School Literacy Movement, because school libraries are a source of information, instilling students' independent attitudes, instilling students' love of knowledge, improving students' reading skills, and can help students carry out learning assignments. (2) in using the library there are obstacles such as almost all the books in the library at SDN Sawojajar 1 Malang are old publications and are not suitable for elementary school children's reading, (3) to overcome the obstacles experienced, the school provides the latest publications and books that are in accordance with elementary school age children.

In the results of this research, school libraries can be used to attract students' interest in implementing literacy and can help students gain knowledge so that students can gain knowledge outside of learning hours.
