Abstract

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) Business is one of sales concept which is using language as an important aspect to smoothen their sales. MLM uses many presentations through their leaders to attract more distributor and consumer to expand the sales network. Good presentation ability from the leaders will influence a lot the audience to follow their command to do something related with their Business. Therefore, a good leader must be smart and creative to choose best words to persuade people through presentation. A leaders' business presentation should able to change people's attitude and decision, also controlling their emotion, with no coercion. Based on the characteristic of persuasive language that used by leaders, the researcher observes kinds of persuasive language from the internal and external language side through analyzing the problem from persuasive techniques that used in persuasive language. Based on those, the statement of problem on this research is the kinds of persuasive language that used by leader in presentation of MLM business reviewed from persuasion techniques. This is a qualitative research. In collecting the data, the researcher observed and recorded directly to the MLM presentation. The data on this research are in form of verbal communication which limited on the text contain only, without paying attention to Non-verbal aspect such as intonation or voice volume. To support this research, the researcher used a questionnaire instrument that given to the audience of presentation. The result of this research that can be found is the characteristic of leader in using kinds of persuasive language. The researcher concludes that kinds of persuasive language can be reviewed from internal and external language. The form of persuasive language can be divided into two based on persuasion technique. There are seven kind of persuasion techniques reviewed from internal side of language. These techniques are syntactical technique that used to give interesting language controlling. The seven techniques are parallelism, repetition, suspension, omission, antithesis, alliteration and inversion. From those, there are five techniques that often used in presentation by the leader to persuade the audience. Those five techniques are omission, parallelism, repetition, antithesis and suspension. Moreover, there are seven persuasion techniques which arising from influence factor out of language. It was divided based on things related with persuasion such as situation, objective and motivation. The technique is including rationalization, identification, autosuggestion, konformitas, compensation, projection, and substitution.
