Abstract

Journalistic language or languages commonly referred to by the press itself is a creative variety of language Indonesian language. Thus journalistic language has its own rules that distinguish the various other languages. Journalistic language is the language used by journalists (journalists) in writing works of journalism in the mass media. Given the importance of journalistic language used in newspapers, it is interesting to know the assessment of researchers from readers about the language of newspaper journalism in Jawa Pos. Formulation of the problem in this research is how the opinions of UMM students majoring in Communication Sciences Journalism about the use of language in daily journalism Jawa Pos? Opinions interpreted as what she thought, as the views and feelings that are developing in a particular society about every issue that attracted the attention of the people (Eriyanto, 1999:3). Journalistic language is the language used by journalists (journalists) in writing works of journalism in the mass media (Anwar, 1991). Operational definition in this study is the language of Journalism which is divided into seven indicators are: instrumental, regulatory, interaction, personal, heuristics, imaginative, and representational. This study attempted to describe a situation or event, the data collected purely descriptive, so do not intend to seek clarification, test hypotheses, make predictions and study the implications. Type of research is descriptive quantitative research. The student population used is the Department of Communication Studies Journalism concentration UMM force 2004 / 2005 with the following criteria: Have you ever read a newspaper at least two times Jawa Pos in a week, and read with attention to language and journalism. Of the total population that is established, the researchers used a total sampling where according Arikunto (2002:112) that if the subject is less than 100, preferably taken all of that research is the study populations. So the researchers took the sum total of the population for this study as a sample in as many as 73 students. Analysis of data is analyzed using analysis of means (on average). Based on that analysis has been conducted, the researchers received the results of that opinion journalism students about language usage in both Jawa Pos newspaper. This is based on average calculations were carried out and produce an amount of 2.6 who fall into categories of good assessment.
