Abstract

Managing the bank is very different to manage the industry in general because the banks run their business by managing public money into customers. It is therefore important for banks to maintain public confidence. Banks are required to always run their operations efficiently in order to remain viable and compete with other banks in attracting community so willing to save or borrow funds to the bank, so public confidence can be maintained. This research was conducted at banks that have gone public for the period 2004-2005. The data used are secondary data and its data type is a combination of time series and cross section. The dependent variable is the operational efficiency of banks by using the ratio BOPO while the independent variables are the number of credits, the cost of intermediation and third party funds. The method of analysis used in this study namely, the first to know the efficiency of banking operations with the formula used BOPO ratio of operating income divided by operating costs by descriptive analysis. The second multiple regression using OLS (Ordinary Least Square), while the models to be used in this study are semi-log linear model. The results stated that banking operations in Indonesia have been efficient this can be seen the average ratio of the twentieth BOPO three banks that made the object of research during the period 2004-2005 amounted to 84.33%. The estimation results of regression states that the efficiency of banking operations in Indonesia affected by the amount of credit, intermediation costs and third party funds, each of which has a coefficient of -0.267, 0.200, 0.010. The most dominant variable in affecting the operational efficiency of bank intermediation cost is the sum of the standardized regression coefficient of 1.484.
