Abstract

This research is motivated by the use of languages in areas that tend to be the secret police, remember not all police activity should be known by ordinary people. Therefore, the possibility of language used by police to be "typical" that made possible the emergence of the use of "argot". In addition it also has not been doing background research on the argot. This study aims to describe the form, function and meaning of argot used in the resort area of Malang. This research technique using qualitative descriptive technique considering the results of the research effort describes the form, function and meaning of argot. The research data in the form of notes or record the observation of formal and informal activity conducted in the police, the data obtained from the documentation in the form of books, magazines, letters which led to the use of argot. Therefore, data collection techniques of observation and documentation techniques while processing the data using analytical techniques The results of this study can be drawn that (a) review of the argot form that appears in the form of abbreviations, acronyms, alphabet, meaning the ratio or equation form, and code numbers, (b) viewed from the aspect of function, the use of argot enabled to function fatigue, directive, poetic , and meta-communicative, and (c) viewed from the aspect of meaning can dimaknakan use of argot as a lokusi meaning, the meaning ilokusi, meaning perlokusi.
