Novel is one of literary works aiming to entertain and inform something to readers. By reading the novel, someone will get much information about society life and enjoyment. That was the reason why the writer of this thesis interested in analyzing a novel and focusing on theme. Man can share and acquire experience through reading various themes of novels. The themes of novels about misery, peace, love, hatred, jealousy and the others that related of life. Different theme will surely tell the readers different thing. This makes the readers’ knowledge become abundant and miscellaneous. Through this research, the writer wanted to know about the theme found in Danielle Steel in the “Vanished” and the lesson from the novel. This research was descriptive, and the data were carefully examined for intension of this study. In this study, the writer used objective approach because the writer only focused her analysis on literary work which was independent from many factors like the author’s education, the author’s background, the author’s life and also the audience. While the research data of this study were drown from paragraphs, dialogues, and events related to the theme of “Vanished” on Danielle Steel’s novel. The result of this study showed that the theme of “Vanished” was suffering made someone become strong. Marelle got sufferings because she felt that all incidents were her fault. The suffering made Marielle become strong in facing her problem. Besides, the lessons found out from “Vanished” were that a woman requires protection and the last one is hidden crime would be known.
