Abstract

Pariaman has a tradition before carrying out a wedding, namely the
Bajapuik tradition, In this tradition the woman will provide a certain amount of money to pick up the man before the marriage contract takes place. This tradition is very different from the wedding tradition in Islam and also different from the wedding tradition for people outside Pariaman. This research aims to explain to the community why this tradition continues to be implemented and also how the Maṣhlaḥah Mursalah views in responding to it. The research method used to obtain data in this research is using interviews with the original Pariaman community and literature study. From this research, it is known that the community Pariaman continues to carry out this tradition because it is a custom that was formed as a result of deliberations between the ancestors and also to preserve this custom for posterity. From the perspective of Maṣhlaḥah Mursalah, this tradition also does not conflict with Islamic teachings because there are no valid arguments. forbid it and its implementation brings more benefits than harm to the Pariaman community who carry it out.
