Adolescence is a critical period in the span of life, because this period is the transition from childhood to adulthood. Someone who can pass through adolescence properly, will not be many obstacles in the period hereinafter, otherwise a person who experienced many obstacles when his teenage years then in the subsequent development will be inhibited. In addition, this period is also known as the period of "stress and storm", in this case because in this period many teenagers experience pressures due to the changes in him as well as the process in the search for self identity. Love needs is a very important requirement for adolescents, unmet need for affection will lead to the formation of a negative cognitive schema which soon lead to depression. This research was conducted to determine the relationship of affection in families with a tendency to depression in adolescents. The dependent variable in this research is the tendency of depression, while the independent variables is the fulfillment of love. The population in this study were students SMU Negeri 2 Malang, with samples based on sampling or purposive sampling technique in which the objective characteristics teenagers who have parents complete and not divorced. Total study sample is 85 students. In this study distinguished between the love that comes from the mother (r) with the love that comes from the father (r). Based on research results indicate that there is a very significant negative relationship between the fulfillment of love in a family with a tendency to depression in adolescents (r = -0.570, r = -0.375 and p = 0.000), meaning that the higher level needs affection within the family, the lower the level of depressive tendencies in adolescents. In this study also found that the unmet need for affection from the mother resulted in a tendency of depression is higher than the unmet needs of the father's affection. In connection with these results it is recommended to parents for more attention to psychological needs of their children, especially the need for love. And parents can give love to their children wisely, with no less nor excessive.
