Abstract
The aim of mathematic in the Indonesian’s curriculum said clearly about ability that want to applied in student, there are: (1) problem solving ability, (2) reasoning ability, (3) communication ability, (4) connection ability, and (5) representation ability. That five things was known mathematical power process standards by NCTM. According to this aim, mathematical communication was the important thing to increased. Mathematical communication reflected understanding in mathematic and the part of mathematical power. In construstivistic learning, student had to construct their mind by themselves. Teaching mathematic in the constructivistic view did not transfer the knowledge again but gave and arranged the study surrounding in order to make student can be motivated to improve their mathematic knowledge by themselves. The purpose of this research was to description about the ability to expressed mathematical idea by talking, the ability to expressed mathematical idea by writing, and the ability to used the main word and notation mathematical by writing in the student of mathematic education department in constructivistic learning in Teori Himpunan lesson. This research was descriptif research with the quality approach. The population came from student of mathematic education department first grade of A class on the learning year 20082009, that amount was 45 students. And the sample was the student of this population, there was 20 students. Data collecting technique was observation and tes. From this research showed that in constructivistic learning: the ability to expressed mathematical idea by talking had low ability 75%, the ability to expressed mathematical idea by writing had medium ability 75%, and the ability to used the main word and notation mathematical by writing had high ability 60%.
